Nestled by the Ashley River for over three centuries, the Old St. Andrew’s Parish Church is the oldest surviving church in South Carolina. It is located on ten acres of land in the West Ashley area of Charleston, South Carolina. This Episcopal church was created along with nine other parishes when the Colonial Assembly passed the Church Act in on November 30th, 1706.
A cemetery and education building are also located on the property of the Old St. Andrew’s Parish Church, which is listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Centuries of wars and brutal damage from hurricanes including the devastating Hurricane Hugo in 1989 took its toll on the church, which underwent a $1.5 million renovation that was completed in 2005. The main church building still retains its original flooring and the original baptismal font.
